PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) -- Virginia State Police says one of their troopers was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries after a driver struck a patrol car on U.S. Highway 29 Saturday.
VSP says two troopers were stopped on the southbound side of the highway attending to a disabled tractor trailer around 2 p.m. October 11. The troopers were reportedly outside their vehicles when a 2004 Chrysler hit one of their cars, which then hit a trooper.
The second trooper was not injured. VSP says both patrol vehicles had emergency lights on and were parked partially in the right travel lane.
The driver of the Chrysler, 74-year-old Raul Jesus Salas of Gretna was charged with reckless driving.
The incident is under investigation.
