NEW DELHI: A 14-month-old girl who had come to visit her maternal uncle in North Tripura’s Panisagar was allegedly raped and murdered, news agency PTI reported on Sunday. According to police, the accused, a daily wager, was arrested from Nilambazar in Assam on Sunday. Sumanta Bhattacharjee, Officer-in-Charge of Panisagar police station, said the accused had taken the toddler from her mother under the pretext of an outing. “Since he did not return the child back to her mother after three hours, the parents became anxious. As the news spread, hundreds of villagers started searching for the child,” he said. The child’s body was later recovered buried in a paddy field. “After conducting the post-mortem, it was handed over to the family today,” Bhattacharjee added.
