Dental patients of a southern Sydney practice are being urged to get tested for blood-borne viruses, including HIV, after they were potentially exposed to poor cleaning and inadequate sterilisation of equipment.
Safuan Hasic, also known as Steven Hasic, based at 70 Victoria Avenue in Mortdale, has been barred from practising after he was found to have breached infection control standards.
NSW Health authorities said dental work performed on site by Mr Hasic over a period of time may have exposed thousands of former and current patients to serious viruses such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
Mr Hasic's clinic has been closed and his registration has been suspected by the Dental Council of NSW.
