Time-limited government support may not be enough for those escaping human trafficking, a leading charity has warned after reports reached a record high in Australia.
New figures from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) found reports of some forms of exploitation more than doubled in the past year.
During the 2024-25 financial year, the AFP received 420 reports of human trafficking - a 10 per cent rise from 382 the previous year - averaging about one report every day.
Forced marriage remained the most common type, accounting for 118 reports, followed by sexual servitude (84) and exit trafficking (75), which more than doubled from 35 cases in 2023-24.
