OLATHE, Kan. — Dozens of local children learned new moves and life lessons Monday when UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie visited Olathe to teach a special jiu-jitsu class.

The retired UFC champion conducted the session at Tyson Kilbey Jiu-Jitsu, sharing his expertise with the next generation of martial artists. Gracie emphasized that the ancient art extends far beyond physical self-defense techniques.

“Jiu jitsu teaches people how to have confidence,” Gracie said. “With confidence, you can deal with any kind of situation. It teaches you how to make decisions.”

The legendary fighter, known for his groundbreaking performances in early UFC competitions, stressed the mental and emotional benefits of martial arts training for young people.
