A forensic psychologist who has encountered more mass killers than virtually anyone in his profession has revealed the single characteristic they all possessed. ‌

Professor Paul E. Mullen has come face-to-face with notorious figures with 10 mass killers during his career, including the likes of Martin Bryant, the Port Arthur gunman who slaughtered 35 people in Tasmania, and Thomas Hamilton , behind the Dunblane school massacre. ‌

The criminal psychology expert, who hails from Bristol, maintains these killers aren't "incomprehensible monsters", but instead profoundly troubled individuals moulded by identifiable influences. With this perspective, Paul was asked whether the solitary killers he had examined all displayed a similar characteristic. ‌
