Race Across the World star Sam Gardiner died after losing control of his car in "appalling" weather on the A34, an inquest has heard.

The 24-year-old from Gatley, Stockport , suffered a devastating head injury when his "high-powered" VW Golf R left the northbound carriageway near Cheadle on May 26 this year .

An inquest at Manchester South Coroners Court on Monday (October 13) heard how Sam - who appeared on the BBC travel series alongside his mum Jo in 2020 - had been driving home for his aunt's birthday celebrations after working as a landscape gardener in Scotland.
