An explosion and fire erupted early Saturday at a homeless encampment near Logan Avenue and Lizzie Street, prompting fresh warnings about safety hazards linked to tent communities in Winnipeg. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on October 11, according to Kelly Hughes, who shared a photo of the blaze on Facebook. “There are about [eight] tents in the park next door at Logan and Lizzie,” Hughes wrote. “One just blew up multiple times. The first explosion was literally the loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Doesn’t look like anyone was inside.” Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded and extinguished the flames.
