WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Officers are investigating after a newborn baby was found dead in Northeast D.C. on Sunday.

Around 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 12, officers responded to the 300 block of 40th Street, Northeast, for a report of an infant death. Upon arrival, police found a newborn baby unconscious and not breathing.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, but despite all lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead.

Detectives with MPD's Special Victims Unit are handling the investigation.
