Two people died in a fiery plane crash in Dartmouth on Monday.

The fixed-wing airplane crashed into the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth Monday morning, causing a fire and forcing the closure of part of the highway, officials said.

Massachusetts State Police learned of the crash around 8:15 a.m. Monday, Tim McGuirk, an agency spokesman, said in a statement.

The plane may have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport, but State Police said the pilot did not provide the airport with a flight plan or the number of people on board.

Two people aboard the aircraft died. Another person on the ground was injured. They were taken in a passenger car to St. Luke’s Hospital.

Officials did not release any further information about the people involved.
