LAWRENCE COUNTY — A Vicksburg man was killed early Sunday when the vehicle he was driving overturned during a law enforcement pursuit in Lawrence County, authorities said.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:18 a.m. on Oct. 12 on Highway 43. Troopers said a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by 42-year-old Michael Lyons of Vicksburg was traveling south when it left the roadway and overturned.

Lyons died at the scene, officials said. A 15-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

MHP said Lyons was fleeing from a Lawrence County sheriff’s deputy at the time of the crash.

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
