MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Military veteran Ben Reese said he is prepared to remain camped outside in Downtown Memphis until the National Guard leaves Memphis.
“We are a couple days in, and the bat signal has been sent out. We have a lot of allies involved,” Reese said.
He and other veterans are making it clear they oppose the deployment of the National Guard to Memphis.
The guardsmen officially came to Memphis last week and have been seen in areas of downtown.
According to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, about 150 National Guard members will be deployed to Memphis.
Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis said they will assist MPD with traffic control and patrolling the retail corridor.
