DALLAS — A longtime Jamaican restaurant located in South Dallas is closing its doors.
Elaine's Kitchen will shut down Oct. 18, its owners confirmed to WFAA. The restaurant, located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, was a favorite spot for authentic Jamaican cuisine, including chicken Jamaican patties, goat soup and hot water cornbread.
Elaine Patricia Campbell founded the restaurant at its original location in 1987 before it moved down the street in 2008. Campbell died in April 2023 at the age of 73.
Her name still seasons South Dallas. “Oh wow! What made me come today, Mama Elaine," said Clarence Glover, former SMU Professor.
She was bold, soulful and unforgettable. “The foods are delicious to me, and I can’t get enough," said Lonleso Howard, an Oak Cliff resident.
