EAST LANSING — Jonathan Smith knows the clock is ticking.

Michigan State football 's second-year coach understands his seat is on fire coming off the Spartans ’ disastrous and beyond lackluster 38-13 loss to previously putrid UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Though Smith said he has tried to put aside the growing din from fans calling for his job, he also recognized why they are frustrated and furious.

“I don’t call it disappointment. I do feel like I live in the realities of the thing,” Smith said Monday. “And so when you (have) a couple of tough losses and whatnot, and you come in at home on homecoming and you get beat like that? I know, I think, it comes with the territory. That’s what we signed up for.”
