NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Nashville runners are reclaiming the greenways one year after Alyssa Lokits was randomly attacked and killed while exercising in Antioch.

Starting Sunday, her friends, family and even strangers are spending seven days taking on all 107 miles of Nashville’s greenways.

Lokits’s family has big plans to honor her legacy. They’re working with Metro Parks on creating educational resources to empower women to keep themselves safe during outdoor activity and create infrastructure changes to make parks safer.

“We have just as much ownership over these spaces as anybody else and we need to encourage women to understand that they have that ownership, to have that confidence,” said Abby Lokits, director of Free to Move.
