(WTVO) — MTV is shutting off its music channels in Europe and the UK.

According to Yahoo News, Paramount Global, MTV's parent company, plans to shut down MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV Live, and Club MTV on December 31st, 2025.

Its main channel will remain, although it currently focuses less on music videos than reality TV shows like "Teen Mom" and "Geordie Shore."

MTV (short for Music Television) debuted in 1981 as a 24-hour music broadcaster. The first video to hit the air was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles.

In the 80s and 90s, MTV introduced VJs, TRL after school, Headbangers Ball, Yo! MTV Raps and more. It made headlines for the debut of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video in 1983 and a 16-hour Live Aid concert in 1985.
