ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A man from Clarke County was arrested under a new Florida law, News 5 has learned.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol release, Daniel Josiah Powell, 24, was arrested early Friday on I-10 for driving while intoxicated and being a "super speeder."

Powell allegedly was driving northbound while going 131 mph in a 65 mph zone at around 12 a.m. in Escambia County. He rear-ended a car at mile marker #8 before a Florida Trooper was able to initiate a full stop.

To prevent him from leaving the scene, the trooper "made contact with Mr. Powell's vehicle," the release said. The person in the car struck by Powell, a man from Tennessee, reportedly was not injured.

Powell was released from the hospital following treatment for minor injuries.

He is charged with DUI,
