GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The expanded section of Rosy Mound Natural Area is officially open, according to Ottawa County Parks and Recreation.
The 127 acres were added to the natural area, doubling its size and bringing the park to a total of 291 acres along Lake Michigan in Grand Haven Township. The expansion deal was finalized in December but had been in the works for 30 years.
Most of the expansion site — 92% — will be preserved or restored as a natural habitat. A future trail was dedicated in honor of Alice Hoban, who is a founding board member of Ottawa County Parks Foundation as well as a donor, volunteer and longtime officer of the Friends of Ottawa County Parks.
