CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A manhunt is currently underway for an inmate who escaped his work detail in Carroll County on Monday afternoon, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies said David Emsley Wheeles was unaccounted for from a work detail around 3:30 p.m. in the area of East Luke Drive and Highway 113 in Temple.

Law enforcement officers are actively searching the grounds for Wheeles. If you see him, you are asked to not approach and call 911 right away. Carroll County deputies told the public to "remain alert and be aware of your surroundings."

The 36-year-old Wheeles is 6-foot-4, weighs 175 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He has a mustache and goatee and wears black-rimmed eye glasses, deputies said. He was last seen wearing white pants and an orange prison shirt. Credit: Car
