NEWARK - An effort to make public participation at Newark Board of Education meetings easier and more accessible has been shot down by the school board’s governance committee.

Board Co-Vice President Allison James-Frison in August sought to introduce a resolution that would change the board’s rules regarding public participation, including longer time for citizens to speak and no requirement to sign up in advance of the meeting. James-Frison was absent from the Sept. 30 board meeting.
