WAYLAND, MI — Charlotte resident Chad Larner, 53, spent the night camped in a fast food drive-thru.

More than a hundred drivers would join him in a jubilant chorus of car horns hours later on Monday, Oct. 13, as the Hot ‘n Now drive-thru officially opened for business.

The nostalgic burger chain originated in Kalamazoo in 1984 , becoming a quick, go-to option for many Michiganders.

The brand once grew to over 100 locations in 15 states until one by one, the iconic eateries closed. The drive-thru and walk-up restaurant, at 1146 129th Ave. near Wayland off U.S. 131, joins the Hot ‘n Now in Sturgis as the only two locations in operation. 21

Thanks to a social media challenge, Larner secured the first spot in line and subsequent inaugural bite of nostalgia.
