PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) - Monday marks the seventh official Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Maine.
To celebrate, several museums around the state partnered up with Maine’s native tribes for events, art displays, and more:
The Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine hosted the Burnurwubskek Singers from the Penobscot Nation who will share music and stories with visitors. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and was included with admission.
The Portland Museum of Art opened with free admission for all for a self-guided tour of displays, galleries, and performances centered around indigenous nations.
The Abbe Museum held free programming including performances and art displays taking visitors through different aspects of Wabanaki culture.
