SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Two new measles cases have been identified in Southwest Utah, bringing the statewide total to 55.
According to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, the two newest cases were found in the area served by the Southwest Utah Health Department. This brings the total number of cases in that area to 41, the highest regional amount in the state.
Utah County's Health District has had seven measles cases, the Bear River Health District has four cases, and the Southeast Utah Health District has three cases.
Only one of the 55 measles cases from this year has occurred in a vaccinated individual, and one other case was in an individual whose vaccination status is unknown. All other cases have been in unvaccinated individuals.
