CORALVILLE, Iowa —

Richard Sherzan, a 78-year-old former Iowa legislator from Coralville, has announced he will enter the race for Iowa's U.S. Senate seat in 2026.

Sherzan served in the Iowa Legislature from 1973 to 1981 and spent most of his career as an attorney in Arizona.

He faces a crowded Democratic primary with Jackie Norris, Nathan Sage, Josh Turek, and Zach Wahls all in the race.

When it comes to Republican candidates, Jim Carlin, U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, and Joshua Smith are campaigning for the seat.

The seat is opening after incumbent Senator Joni Ernst chose not to run again.
