WASHINGTON — The visual impacts of the federal government shutdown are showing up across the District with the closure of museums and national monuments , but the city's convention center is bustling with the Association of the United States Army's annual convention .

An estimated 40,000 people are expected to attend the professional and educational development exposition that runs Oct. 13-15 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The 2025 theme is “Agile, Adaptive, Lethal: Winning at the Pace of Change."

However, this year the government shutdown did draw concerns that attendance at the conference would take a hit because active-duty military members are not getting paid .
