ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – According to the City of Abilene's Transportation Director, Don Green, the Abilene Regional Airport is operating normally during the government shutdown, and construction should start by May.

Green told the Airport Development Board that none of the agencies he works with have been unresponsive during the shutdown. He also said that air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees have continued working without interruption, even though many federal workers are currently doing so without pay.

"The longer this goes, the more impact it has on morale, and then you start to see people calling in sick more," Green said to the board.

He added that employees historically receive back pay for hours worked during government shutdowns
