BURLINGTON, N.C. — A police officer was injured in the football field fight that broke out on Oct. 10 at Cummings High School in Burlington.

In a police report obtained by WFMY News 2, records show a Burlington police officer was injured in an aggravated assault, resulting in "apparent minor injury."

The Burlington Police Department said the officer was a school resource officer (SRO) on duty during the game. The incident took place around 9:50 p.m. on Friday.

The football game was between Cummings High School and Person High School from Roxboro. After the game, a large altercation between the two teams broke out.

The Alamance-Burlington School System released a statement explaining an investigation is underway.
