MISSISSIPPI . - It all started with an email about an "internship opportunity."

“I figured it was valid cause it was sent to my school email," said Wyatt Sackett, who attends Northwest Mississippi Community College.

Sackett showed FOX13 the email, which promised easy money for college students.

He hoped to use the money for when he transferred to a four-year university.

"With this work study, (I thought) I could make a decent chunk of money and save all of it for college," he explained.

The scammer sent Sackett a total of four checks with instructions to cash them and wire the money to someone else.

When those checks bounced, the 19-year-old hesitated to send more money.

However, he said the scammer started to threaten him.
