MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - It’s been roughly 15 years since Congress passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The landmark healthcare law has seen many changes over the years.

Now, the expiration of certain tax credits at the end of the year has become a key factor in the ongoing government shutdown.

The Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, was designed to provide accessible care to everyone, but only if they qualified.

During COVID-19, Congress added enhanced tax credits to the ACA to help buy down premiums and lower costs for the consumer. But now, these credits are soon to expire.

Lance Boyer with the North Dakota Farmers Union Insurance believes the end of the tax credits will impact many who use Obamacare.
