PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - Nearly 150 people participated in dueling demonstrations on the 120th anniversary of the Columbus Monument in Pueblo and Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

The Order of Sons of Italy hosted a ceremony at the Columbus Statue commemorating the monument’s dedication on Monday, around 10 a.m.

“We believe this is an essential part of Pueblo, and for 120 years it’s been here. So we are continuing to make sure that it stays up,” Sons of Italy President Geno Carleo said.

Indigenous activists marched from Hinkle Park to the statue, where dancers also held a ceremony.
