MADISON, Wis. — As Israel and Hamas start the journey toward a hopeful end to the conflict that began on Oct. 7, 2023, local Palestinian and Israeli residents say they’re relieved but cautiously optimistic about where it could go.

“Saw pictures of the hostages back with their families,” Matan Ivri, a University of Wisconsin–Madison junior, said. “One of my friends is back home and it was great to see.”

It’s been a year since Ivri, an Israeli citizen, spoke to News 3 Now about how he felt the war in Gaza was affecting the U.S. presidential election.
