WISE, Va. – There were players present from each of his stops along the coaching journey that lasted for more than four decades. There were those he coached with and coached against. Some in attendance knew him when he was just getting started on his career path and others hadn't met him until long after he had become one of the most successful coaches in Virginia High School League history.
Some folks drove a few minutes to make it, others traveled many hours.
There was indeed a wide and varied cross-section of people who attended the celebration of life for Phil Robbins that was held on Sunday afternoon at the David J. Prior Convocation Center at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Robbins died on Sept. 21 at the age of 81.
He won 307 football games as a head fo
