BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) customers in eastern Montana are facing a possible hike in their electric bills.

The company filed a rate increase request with the Montana Public Service Commission at the end of September.

The commission has up to nine months to make a decision.

The last rate hike in Montana was two years ago.

In North Dakota, MDU customers saw an increase in prices in 2023, and there are no requests to increase prices here.

A spokesperson for the company says the rate hikes are not a result of an increasing number of data centers.
