Two weeks ago, trail-goers were met with a sign posted at the entrance of the bridge, notifying them that Chattanooga's Riverpark Walking Bridge would be closed for 6 months for repairs.

"At first, I was pretty frustrated, because this side of the riverwalk is going to be closed, the other side of the riverwalk toward St. Elmo is going to be closed, the Walnut Street Bridge is closed, so pretty much everywhere I run or ride my bike is closed,” says Lilli Morgan, a Chattanooga resident.

The closure comes after a structural engineer deemed it was in need of critical repair, according to Haley Burton, a Hamilton County spokesperson. Burton says crews will take apart the walkway to its studs, and the entire process will take around 6 months.
