An armed man barricaded himself in a vehicle after a police pursuit ended in a crash, the Fort Wayne Police Department said Monday.

Police were called about 8:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of North Clinton Street because a man was reportedly unresponsive in the driver seat. He fled when police arrived, a news release said.

During the chase, the suspect reportedly said he had a firearm. The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle at 100 E. Superior St.

The man refused to leave the vehicle and said he intended to "commit 'suicide by cop,' " the news release said. A negotiator tried to resolve the incident, and the police department's emergency services team, crisis response team and aerial support unit were called.
