RALEIGH, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- North Carolina Republicans say they want to redraw the state’s congressional map to add another Republican seat.

GOP leaders argued Monday that they are responding to similar efforts by Democrats in California. That effort in California came after Texas Republicans redrew their maps.

In a news release, Senate Pro Tem Phil Berger and House Speaker Destin Hall said they were answering a call from President Trump. The expectation is that the GOP will carve up North Carolina’s first congressional district in the Eastern part of the state. The seat, currently held by Democrat Don Davis, has been the most competitive in recent years.
