LANSING Mich. (WLNS) - A unanimous vote among city council members resulted in Lansing become a LGBTQ+ welcoming city Monday night.

A resolution passed at Monday night's Lansing City Council meeting, officially proclaiming Lansing to be a welcoming place for the LGBTQ+ community. Advocates spoke during public comment about why this resolution is so important, including those with the group The Lansing Advocates for Trans Safety.

Members Lindsey Ross and Lyra Opalikhin said in recent weeks there have been threats made against the LGBTQ+ community in the city. This prompted the group to meet with council members and, within two weeks, the resolution was drafted and voted on.
