SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Monday night, the Sioux City City Council accepted funding from the Iowa Finance Authority for a new homelessness prevention program.

Jill Wanderscheid with Neighborhood Services says the $104,000 will be used to assist people facing eviction with up to 3 months of rent payments. Applications for rental assistance will be available once the city launches its program; it’s expected to launch later this fall.

“We can get referrals both from landlords, they can initiate an application; or the people living in the units can as well,” said Wanderscheid. “We don’t have the applications available yet, but when we do in the next month or so, we’ll make sure everybody knows via press releases and outreach.”
