PHOENIX — Charlie Kirk will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Oct. 14, according to the organization Kirk founded, Turning Point USA.

Kirk, a popular conservative political activist and media personality, was at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, as part of his nonprofit political organization Turning Point USA's "American Comeback Tour."

He was fatally shot and killed at the event.

President Donald Trump said during Kirk's memorial at State Farm Stadium in Glendale last month that he would be posthumously awarding Kirk with the Medal of Freedom— which is considered the highest honor a civilian can receive from the federal government—"soon."
