The World Health Organization on Monday issued a health advisory warning about three contaminated cough syrups identified in India, urging authorities worldwide to report any detection of these medicines, news agency Reuters reported.

The affected batches include Coldrif from Sresan Pharmaceutical, Respifresh TR from Rednex Pharmaceuticals, and ReLife from Shape Pharma. The WHO said these syrups pose significant risks, capable of causing severe, potentially life-threatening illness .

India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) reported that the toxic medicines were consumed by children under five in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, where at least 22 children, mostly from Parasia, have died. Several others are currently being treated at hospitals in Maharashtra'
