The family of a 15-year-old boy killed in a boating accident off the Bunbury coast has remembered him as a "beautiful and fascinating young man".

Joseph French was killed when a boat he was on capsized after it was struck by a wave near Turkey Point in Bunbury on October 3.

He was taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital in a critical condition but later died.

Three adults, believed to be his family members, were also on the boat but were uninjured.

In a statement, the French family said they have "truly felt embraced" by the community.
