The ACT Director of Public Prosecutions says her office does not have enough funding to deal with an increasing annual caseload of more than 23,000 charges.

Director Victoria Engel has warned cases could be dropped if funding is not increased.

"We are surviving because of the dedication and the commitment of my very hard-working staff,"

Ms Engels said.

"They go above and beyond daily to try to meet the expectations that are put on them and the unrelenting workload.

"That is not sustainable though."

DPP at risk of rejecting some cases

Ms Engels took over as DPP 18 months ago, and said since then she had identified a "ten-year funding deficit" affecting the department, even as its case load increased.
