A man once accused of being behind a triple homicide cold case in rural Queensland has been urged to "have a very good think" about his recollection of the events by a Brisbane court.
A coronial inquest into the deaths of three tourists in the Queensland town of Mount Isa almost 50 years ago has entered its second week.
It is tasked with examining the 1978 deaths of Karen Edwards, 23, Timothy Thomson, 31, and Gordon Twaddle, 22.
The group was travelling from Alice Springs to Melbourne on motorcycles when they were shot in the head at Spear Creek, north of Mount Isa.
Bruce Preston, now 69, was arrested over the homicides in 2019, but the prosecution against him was later withdrawn.
Mr Preston had admitted to stealing one of the victims' – Mr Thomson's – red motorbike.
