A council is set to demolish 28 long-disused garages which have suffered from repeated vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

A decision set to be approved this week will seek the demolition of 28 local authority owned garages on Hawk Close in the Freetown area of Bury .

A cabinet report said: “All 28 garages have been vacant empty for a considerable time, are beyond economic repair and are subject to repeated acts of vandalism, drug taking and setting fires.

“They are a constant cause of nuisance and concern for residents.”

It is estimated that the demolition of the garages will cost around £75,000.

Council officers will then prepare a feasibility study for future use of the site within the next six months.
