A police officer stationed at one of the gates of Kenya’s president’s official residence has died after being shot with an arrow, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when a 56-year-old man, armed with a bow and arrows, approached officers at the gate of State House. Police ordered the man to surrender, but he instead moved forward and shot PC Ramadhan Matanka in the ribs.

The officer was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment, according to a police statement.

The attack has raised concerns over security protocols at State House, one of Kenya’s most heavily guarded locations.
