The developer who proposed drive-in movie theater on Belleville Road has taken the proposal off the table following widespread public concern.

Yancy McPherson appeared before the Orangeburg County Planning Commission Wednesday evening with a request to rezone about 88.88 acres on Belleville Road to commercial general with the intentions to build a drive-in movie theater. McPherson also planned to build a mixed residential housing development (including off -campus housing for university students such as apartments, townhomes and duplexes) as well as retail (box stores, an ice cream shop and a hair salon).

But after hearing from several concerned residents, he changed his mind.
