Orangeburg County is planning to purchase about 50 acres on Five Chop Road as a potential site for a veterans' nursing facility.

County Council gave unanimous second reading last week to an ordinance authorizing the county to purchase the property from M&P Land LLC for the facility.

The facility would be located on Five Chop Road, though officials were not ready to disclose the exact location of the property until the transaction is complete.

Orangeburg County Administrator Harold Young said negotiations continue on the transaction. He said an environmental survey still needs to be done before a purchase price is locked in.

He said the project is still in its early stage.

"We are still getting locked down on the land," he said.
