The Bombay High Court has delivered a landmark verdict in a case related to road accidents. The Court stated that in cases of deaths caused by potholes and open manholes in Maharashtra, victim families will now be given a compensation of Rs 6 lakh.
A bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Sandeep D. Patil said that if a person is injured in these accidents, they will receive compensation ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.50 lakh. For such accidents, contractors, as well as municipal and government officials, will be held responsible.
The Court ordered that all eligible victims be compensated within 6 to 8 weeks. If there is a delay, the concerned officials such as the Commissioner, District Collector, CEO, etc., will be personally responsible and will have to pay the amount with interest.
