NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- New York City residents who are victims of domestic violence may be able to more easily reach the help hotline with a new City Council proposal.

Int 0459-2024 would make it so that domestic violence-related complaints made to 311 would be automatically transferred to the New York City Domestic Violence Hotline (DV hotline). The bill would also require 311 to add a menu option to automatically transfer callers to the DV hotline.

Currently, domestic violence victims seeking support are advised to call 911 or the National DV hotline directly at 800-799-SAFE (7233).
