Halloween in Scotland is set to be a truly spine-tingling affair this year, with haunted castles, eerie woodland walks and centuries-old traditions bringing the spooky season to life. Known locally as ‘All-Hallows Eve’, the celebration has deep roots in the ancient Gaelic festival of Samhain, a time when the boundary between the living and the dead was believed to blur. ‌

In Scotland, Halloween is often called by other names, and what most people know as ‘trick or treating’ is known here as ‘guising', a nod to the disguises or costumes worn by children who perform songs or jokes in exchange for sweets. ‌
